Perth Airport has unveiled plans to build a new six-storey car park saying it hopes the structure will improve traffic chaos.

Airport CEO Jason Waters said the building would be situated on the western side of the short-term parking bays of Terminal 1 and will also link to the sky bridge.

Perth Airport has partnered with contractor Georgiou to build the new multi-level facility, with construction commencing in mid-2024.

The airport said the new building will “provide a walkway to the terminal” and “greatly increase parking capacity” close to the airport.

“It will greatly increase parking capacity close to the terminals, which is what our customers are asking for,” Mr Waters said.

“The project includes new dedicated pick-up and drop-off points for the terminals, replacing the current forecourt road, and significantly improves the way people access the airport by road.

“We will also be improving access and egress at Terminal 2 by realigning the road network as part of this project.

“The additional capacity is critical to supporting the future growth of the aviation sector in Western Australia.”

The ground floor of the new multi-level car park will be used for all pick-ups and drop-offs at the terminal, including rideshares and taxis.

“Like any other major road works, there will be some short-term inconvenience during the construction phase; however, the long-term benefits for travellers, airline partners and businesses that use the airport will be enormous,” Mr Waters said.

A Perth Airport spokesperson also revealed that the Terminal 2 short-term car park will be expanded and is set to include five EV charging bays.
