Predator debut makes impression

Sonic boomsprays: Predator 7045SP 300 Series III Rebecca TurnerThe West Australian

The giant Sonic Predator 7045SP 300 Series III caught the eye of many people attending this year's Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days.

Max Hebbermann, of Sonic Boomsprays, said the response was awesome, with one Sonic Predator 7045SP 300 Series III already sold "off the stand".

It was the first time the new model was on display at the Dowerin Field Days.

"The weather was great and we had a pretty positive response over the two days," he said.

The Sonic Predator 7045SP 300 Series III is the biggest SP model Sonic has built in Australia, and is a true giant of a self-propelled sprayer that can cover the ground quickly.

Mr Hebbermann said people at the Dowerin Field Days looking at the new Sonic Predator 7045SP 300 Series III were impressed with its efficiency, as it boasted a 7300-litre tank capacity and self-propelled 45 meter boom.

The Sonic Predator 300 Series III carries a 7300 litre Rota moulded main tank, with a 350 litre flush tank capacity and a 45.5m (150ft) trapeze boom. Delivery of product is at 500 litres a minute.

Mr Hebbermann said the 7045SP's mechanical drive was also of great interest.

The mechanical drive system of the Predator makes it very efficient and reliable at getting power to the ground as well as making it extremely fuel efficient, coming in at about 0.5-litres a hectare. Drive to the wheels is through a two-speed Marmon Herrington transfer case and Alltech diffs.

The 7045SP gets its power from 227kW (309hp), 8.3-litre Tier 3 Cummins engine mated to an Alison four-speed auto transmission.

In another first for Sonic, for anyone seeking more power there is now a 260kW (354hp) 8.9 litre engine available as an option.

Transport speed comes at a rippling 70km/h and working speed is up to 40km/h.

The 7045SP sits on an airbag suspension and runs 480 x 80 R 50 tyres or 650/80 R 38 flotation tyres.

The newly designed Crenlo cab offers a 360-degree view, giving uninterrupted visibility and it has an eight-way adjustable seat with a floating console.

Sonic Predator 7045SP 300 Series III is endowed with all the quality-made components and strong build common to Sonic Boomsprays including large flushing tanks.

The 7045SP is also ready for Sonic's Airmatic AirJet nozzle control system to precisely manage spray drift and droplet size.
