Rottnest Island: Mystery surrounds grim discovery of human bones as forensic testing underway
Bones found on Rottnest Island this week are human, police have confirmed.
The grim discovery was made Wednesday morning during construction works on church grounds.
WA Police on Thursday morning revealed a forensic pathologist “determined the bones recovered are human”.
The bones have been brought to Perth where they are undergoing further forensic testing.

It is expected the testing will reveal how old the bones are.
Mystery still surrounds whether they belong to someone who died recently or many years ago.
Police have not said whether the bones were located on the grounds of the Catholic or Anglican church on the island.
