The search for missing fisherman Terry Jennings, who has not been seen since Thursday, continued at first light on Tuesday morning.

The 73-year-old was last seen parking his car and trailer at the Gnarabup boat ramp carpark on Thursday in the Margaret River region.

A full land and sea search is into its second day, with police scouring the water and banks.

It is believed Mr Jennings, a well-known community member, went out to sea in a 3m dinghy.

Police said the boat would not have been suitable for the harsh weather conditions experienced in the area over the weekend.

Police are trying to track down a member of the community who was last seen speaking to Mr Jennings on Thursday near the White Elephant Cafe.

It is hoped that he may be able to assist officers in the search.

Insp. Scott Morrissey said police aircraft and water vessels were being supported by the Augusta and Margaret River Volunteer Marine Rescue Services.

“It is dire, the missing person has not been seen since Thursday morning, so it’s four days,” he said.

“We were behind the eight ball before we started, so we have thrown a lot of resources and assets at this to try and resolve this as quickly as we can but obviously that’s very challenging.”

Premier Mark McGowan said it was a distressing time for his family and hoped the man would be found safe and well.

An air and sea search started on Monday morning after weather precluded the search on Sunday night.

The parked boat trailer was reported to police on Sunday night.

Anyone with information is asked to call Margaret River Police on 9757 8600 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
