Thunderstorm lashes WA South West bringing 40mm of rain to Margaret River

A thunderstorm lashed WA’s South West this evening with more than 40mm of rain recorded near Margaret River.

The wild thunderstorms later hit the Perth metropolitan area with more rain and lightning.

Perth’s southern suburbs were hit hardest.

The heaviest falls across the State were at Witchcliffe, near Margaret River, where 43.6mm was recorded up until 8pm.

Bunbury recorded 19.2mm while Busselton had 13.2mm.

The Weather Bureau had issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the South West and Lower West but it was downgraded late this afternoon.

More rain is expected overnight with showers also forecast for early tomorrow.

There is a chance of more showers on Tuesday and Wednesday before conditions clear later in the week.
