A woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle has been seriously injured after it collided with a car in Perth’s southern suburbs last night.

The rider and female pillion passenger were travelling south down Cockburn Road in Coogee when the Suzuki GSRX1000 motorbike collided with a Hyundai Accent hatchback at Ocean Road about 9.30pm.

The impact of the crash was so intense, the motorbike was destroyed and wreckage was strewn across the road.

Police say the motorcycle rider then fled the crash, leaving the badly injured female passenger at the scene.

A witness told Sunrise the car was an Uber with a passenger inside. He said he couldn’t believe anyone survived the crash.

“Scary to see, she would have gone quite high in the air... and no helmet. It’s just crazy.”

The 40-year-old woman is believed to have broken several bones and is in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital’s State Major Trauma Unit.

The driver of the Hyundai received minor injuries.

During a press conference this morning, WA Premier Mark McGowan said he was unaware of the details regarding the crash but urged people to protect themselves on the roads.

“All I can say is wear a helmet — it’s there to save your life,” he said.

Police would like to speak to the driver of the motorcycle and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or make a report online.
