Perth weather: Showers, hail smashes November average

Perth has received close to its monthly rain average in a single day as a storm brought showers and hail to the metro area.

In the past 24 hours Perth has recorded 18.8mm of rain. So far 56.6mm has fallen this month, way above the November average of 21.7mm.

The heavy rain was part of a cold front that began crossing the coast on Monday morning.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said this weather was typical for winter but not so common for this time of year.

Other parts of the metro area that recorded massive rainfalls in the past 24 hours include Bickley (59.2mm), the Swan Valley (37.2mm) and Gingin (29.2mm).

More rain is forecast for Tuesday with a brief respite in the middle of the week before it returns on Friday.

A severe weather warning remains in place from Windy Harbour in the South West all the way to Israelite Bay on the South Australian border.

Damaging winds of up to 100km/h are expected throughout the morning before conditions ease in the afternoon and evening.

Damaging surf conditions which could cause beach erosion may occur between Cape Naturaliste and Albany.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is asking people to be careful of fallen power lines and not swim or use a boat in the area covered by the weather warning.
