As the dust settles on the 2021 NRL season, the Wests Tigers have given themselves a freshened look, unveiling a brand new club logo.

Gone are the claws from the previous edition, with the club making a number of changes to simplify and modernise its badge.

The Tigers’ original design was introduced in 2000 after the club was founded in 1999, and has seen different design elements added to it, but has more or less stayed the same for 21 years.

However, Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe believed the logo needed an update so it would find its place in an increasingly digital world.

“We’re very excited to share these updates of the Wests Tigers brand,” Pascoe said.

“As the club continues to move forward in an ever-increasing digital age, this design ensures that Wests Tigers is firmly positioned for the future ahead.

“The redesign of our logo has been an extensive process in consultation with many different parties to ensure we recognise the history of Wests Tigers since its establishment in 2000 from two extremely proud foundation clubs.

“While pointing to our history, this update will ensure that the Wests Tigers brand remains recognisable with a strong digital presence as we look forward to a future of innovation and sustained success.

“With the official completion of our Centre of Excellence in the coming months, we are about to embark on an incredibly exciting new era for Wests Tigers and the revitalisation of our logo and brand aligns with the bright future that lies ahead.”

Tigers fans were quick to react to the new logo on Twitter, with many pointing out the lack of claws.

One user wrote: “So no claws? Just like the team. Nice.”

Another tweeted: “Got rid of the claws because we’re never getting our hands on a premiership”.

Other fans took a more fiscal perspective on the matter.

A user posted: “This definitely cost more then (sic) it should have”.

Another wrote: “How much did you pay a marketing company to just crop the old logo?”

While the Tigers look for a refresh off the field, they are hoping to turn a new page on the field, too after a dismal 2021 season.

The club continued its finals drought, limping to a 13th place finish under the tutelage of Michael Maguire.
