A man who asked his wife to hold his phone during a medical procedure is now facing serious charges after she allegedly discovered recordings of a teenage babysitter on the device.

According to court documents, the Tennessee man Christopher Thomas Collins has been charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Mr Collins was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 14, after his wife went to police with what she said were hidden recordings of a teen babysitter taken inside their home, according to local outlets — WTVC, WDEF, and Local 3 News.

An arrest report cited by Local 3 News alleges that Collins set up secret cameras in the bathroom and recorded the teenager while she was undressed. WTVC reported that during her husband’s procedure, the wife decided to go through his phone because she suspected he was having an affair.

The woman told investigators she found the recordings in a concealed folder on the device. According to the outlet, she later sought advice at the church where Collins served as a deacon before being encouraged to contact police.

WSET reported that the wife initially deleted the files but later retrieved screenshots from the “recently deleted” folder to show investigators what she had found. She also told authorities that when confronted, Mr Collins claimed he had installed the cameras “to look for rats”.

According to WDEF, police later received SD cards from the wife that allegedly contained the recordings. Investigators said they found nine videos featuring the teen.

In a statement provided to local media, Mr Collins’ church, Abba’s House, said:

“Through the course of a marriage counselling session, Chris Collins’ wife revealed that she had found videos on her husband’s phone of a minor. We immediately reported it to the police and they are handling the situation. We are caring for his wife and kids during this tragic time. Chris Collins had been a member of the church for four years and served as a deacon. He has been removed from that role.”

It’s not yet known whether Collins has entered a plea or secured legal representation. Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, January 20.
