Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie has revealed her personal mobile number has been leaked online by a fellow politician, and is now being bombarded with abusive and threatening messages.

Under parliamentary privilege, Senator Lambie accused One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts of posting her private mobile number on his social media without her consent.

The outspoken Senator lashed One Nation for the act, calling on Senator Roberts to apologise for compromising her safety.

“I’ve received a number of nasty, abusive and threatening phone calls and messages,” Senator Lambie said.

“It should go without saying that it is completely unacceptable to leak other Senators’ personal contact details to the public just because you don’t like what they’re saying.

“One Nation have crossed a line here that should never be crossed.”

But the One Nation member was unapologetic as he refuted Senator Lambie’s accusations.

Senator Roberts said he was not responsible the phone number leak, placing the blame on One Nation Senate candidate Steve Mav.

“I need to correct the record and state that Steve was sent the phone number by a Tasmanian voter that got it from Senator Lambie’s Facebook post with an invitation to contact her,” Senator Roberts said.

“Steve Mav Senate candidate posted Senator Lambie’s telephone number and a text message.”

Senator Roberts said One Nation did not condone posting private phone numbers, and informed the Senate that Senator Lambie’s phone number had now been removed from social media by Mr Mav.

The tense relationship between Senator Lambie and One Nation has reached a fever pitch in recent days after Senator Lambie gave a scathing speech about One Nation leader Pauline Hanson on Monday.

Senator Lambie slammed Senator Hanson for her attempts to ban mandatory vaccinations, telling the anti-vax Senator to grow up.

“Being held accountable for your own actions isn’t called discrimination, it’s called being, you wouldn’t believe it – a goddamn bloody adult,” she said.

Senator Lambie will now have to change her mobile number to protect her own safety.

The outspoke veteran advocate expressed dismay that this would mean many of the serviceman and women she supports would not be able to contact her.

“I give my phone number to veterans whose mental health is not so good. And most of the time they’re on their last legs,” Senator Lambie said.

“Those veterans know they can call me at any time of the day or night if they need someone to listen to them.

“If you’ve got someone’s number, it’s not hard to find out personal details that are linked to it. I’m going to have to change my phone number because I need to make sure my family and friends are safe.”

Both sides of politics condemned One Nation’s behaviour, echoing Senator Lambie’s anger over the inappropriateness of posting private information online.

“The sharing of private contact details personal confidential arrangements in relation to any member of parliament, indeed, in relation to any individual without their consent or knowledge is inappropriate and should not occur,” Liberal Senate leader Simon Birmingham said.

“I urge the Government senators and the leader of the government to unequivocally condemn what One Nation has done on this occasion. And I urge Senator Roberts to issue an apology in an unqualified manner,” Labor Senator leader Penny Wong said.
