Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is in isolation following one of his staff testing positive for COVID-19.

Mr Frydenberg put out a statement today saying he has had a COVID-19 test which has been returned as negative but he is still in isolation.

His electorate office has been closed and deep cleaned.

“Late last night I was informed that a member of my staff has tested positive for COVID-19,” Mr Frydenberg said.

“At present the staff member is yet to be contacted by Victorian Health and Human Services contact tracers which would start the process to determine if my electorate office would be deemed an exposure site.

“However out of an abundance of caution … I will be isolating until further notice.”

Mr Frydenberg has had several COVID scares throughout the pandemic, including when he had a coughing fit in the House of Representatives Chamber and then went into isolation.

The Treasurer has most recently been in Melbourne with his young family.

Federal Parliament is due to return on October 18.
