Worker raised concerns about conduct of WA Liberal Party leader David Honey’s chief of staff Michael Huston

A staffer raised concerns about the conduct of WA Liberal Party leader David Honey’s chief of staff towards her before she left her job earlier this month. The West Australian has chosen not to name the woman, who had been employed on a contract as a policy adviser in Mr Honey’s office in recent months. When contacted on Monday, the woman did not confirm the nature of her concerns. It’s understood they did not relate to harassment. Sources told The West that Michael Huston, Mr Honey’s COS, had upset the woman when he attempted to stop her from speaking in a meeting. The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC), which was her employer, confirmed she had “raised concerns” about the conduct of Mr Huston. A DPC spokesman said the concerns were raised on October 4, but no formal complaint was lodged as she “did not want the matter pursued further”. WA Liberal Party MPs have only been aware that the woman recently left Mr Honey’s office. The loss comes after experienced policy adviser Blair Stratton quit Mr Honey’s team last November. In a statement, a spokesman for Mr Honey said: “We’re advised by DPC that no such complaint has been lodged. ”We would refer any such matter to be dealt with by DPC in accordance with their normal processes.” Attempts to contact Mr Huston were unsuccessful. He is a long-time colleague of Mr Honey having previously worked in the Cottesloe MP’s electorate office.
