Premier Mark McGowan has revealed who he’s backing to win the historic Perth grand final.

After a Facebook poll asking “what’s your tip for the result?” of the 2021 AFL premiership decider between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, Mr McGowan said: “My pick? Dees in a nail-biter.”

Like the Premier was in this year’s State election, the Demons are $1.65 favourites to defeat the Western Bulldogs (2.25), according to TABTouch.

We’ll know if the results pan out the same after the final siren sounds at Optus Stadium, where more than 60,000 fans will pack in to watch the historic game - the first grand final in Perth and just the second played outside of Melbourne.

Mr McGowan did not reveal his pick for the Norm Smith, but a Demons victory would likely see favourites Clayton Oliver ($6) or Christian Petracca ($7) shorten to claim the medal.

Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli is paying $7.50, while Melbourne skipper Max Gawn is $8.50.

The AFL today revealed Hawthorn great Luke Hodge will chair the five-person panel voting for the best player afield.

The panel includes former Collingwood forward Andrew Krakouer, Geelong premiership defender Harry Taylor, respected WA sports journalist Tania Armstrong and AFL media’s Cal Twomey.

Bounce down is 5.15pm AWST.
