Aquarium of Western Australia cuttlefish predicts AFL grand final winner between Geelong and Brisbane
There have been octopuses, beavers, pigs and turtles as animal tipsters — and now there’s a cuttlefish.
A clever cuttlefish at the Aquarium of Western Australia in Hillarys was given the task of picking the AFL grand final winner.
Two identical feeding points, each marked with the colours of Geelong and Brisbane, were presented to the sea creature.
After weighing up the options, the calculating cuttlefish went to the Lions feeder, declaring them the likely premiers for 2025.
“We can’t guarantee the prediction but we can guarantee cuttlefish are one of the ocean’s most fascinating creatures,” AQWA marijne biologist Bree Mahony said.
“They can change colour in an instant, solve problems and, apparently, predict the footy!”
