VideoAFL: A must win game for both Collingwood and Essendon, the stage is set for an enthralling edition of the Anzac Day clash.

Collingwood have been forced into isolation just a day out from their Anzac Day clash with Essendon due to Perth’s COVID-19 lockdown.

After playing West Coast at Optus Stadium in round five on April 16, the Magpies were told to be tested for coronavirus before facing the Bombers in their blockbuster match at the MCG on Sunday.

A light training session at the club on Saturday was cancelled, with Collingwood to conduct their pre-game meetings via video link instead.

The Magpies are expected to be notified of their test results later on Saturday or early Sunday morning with skipper Scott Pendlebury confirming his negative result on Saturday evening.

“Negative! Free to play,” Pendlebury tweeted.

If results are negative, the traditional Anzac Day game will go ahead as planned in front of a crowd of up to 85,000.

Perth and the Peel region entered a snap 72-hour lockdown from Friday midnight WST after a man contracted COVID-19 while staying at one of WA’s quarantine hotels.

The lockdown is due to end at midnight WST on Monday.

The AFL confirmed spectators who had been in those regions since April 17 could not attend matches in Victoria this weekend unless they had confirmation of a negative COVID test.

All West Coast players returned negative COVID test results ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

The game proceeded as planned and the Eagles were due to return home on a charter flight late on Saturday evening before self-isolating.

“We’re going back tonight. We’re in lockdown for a couple of days and then hopefully there’s no spread and we can get on with the season,” coach Adam Simpson said.

Saturday night’s AFL clash between Fremantle and North Melbourne at Optus Stadium will go ahead but without crowds.

Carlton’s new coaching consultant John Worsfold had been due to attend the Blues’ clash with Brisbane at Marvel Stadium on Saturday evening but as he had arrived from Western Australia, had to self-isolate and didn’t receive a negative COVID test result in time to make it to the game.
