West Coast Eagles Jeremy McGovern, Jamie Cripps fined after spiteful North Melbourne contest
West Coast duo Jeremy McGovern and Jamie Cripps have escaped with fines for separate incidents against North Melbourne’s Tarryn Thomas in Monday night’s shock 10-point loss.
Cripps was the first Eagle in hot water after he collected Thomas’ stomach with a closed fist midway through the second term.
The West Coast premiership forward was one of seven players involved in a scuffle after he gave away a free kick inside North’s forward 50 with a dumping tackle on Jack Ziebell over the boundary line.
Cripps was then reported for the gut punch on Thomas shortly after.
The AFL on Tuesday confirmed Cripps would receive a $2000 fine, and not a suspension, with an early plea for his actions which were deemed intentional conduct, low impact, and body contact.
His Eagles teammate McGovern also copped a $1000 fine for tripping Thomas late in the match.
Thomas himself was fined $1500 for wrestling Cripps.
