He’s known for delivering on the big stage when it counts, but West Coast ruck Nic Naitanui delivered on a different account at Eagles HQ on Monday.

Gathering as an entire squad for the first time since the Eagles ticked off another 14-day stint in quarantine after returning from Brisbane, Mineral Resources Park was buzzing with activity.

The first players begun filtering in to the club before 9am, arriving sporadically to debrief West Coast’s season for the first time as a complete playing list.

Whether he had forgotten his player entry key or was simply living up to his reputation as one of the nicest guys in the competition, Naitanui stopped in his tracks and instead went to help carry some of the delivery boxes inside.

After being edged out of the All Australian starting 18 by Melbourne star Max Gawn, Naitanui said West Coast’s failure to make finals for the first time since 2014 would motivate them over summer.

“It’s probably a disappointing finish to the year and the year as a whole,” he said.

“We’re used to playing this time of the season in the finals. I guess it makes us just strive to get better for next season.”
