Former Fremantle defender Reece Conca will continue his football journey in an off-field capacity after joining Melbourne as the club’s player development manager.

Conca will be tasked with developing the reigning premiers’ next generation, a role that is likely to see him work closely with recent Demons WA draftees Jacob Van Rooyen, Taj Woewodin and Judd McVee.

Conca was not offered a new deal by the Dockers at the end of the 2021 season, bringing his 150-game career with Freo and Richmond to an end.

After eight seasons at the Tigers, the 29-year-old crossed to Fremantle ahead of the 2019 season as quickly proved himself a respected leader and player.

Conca managed nine games this year as well as one as a medical substitute, shutting down several dangerous small forwards before falling out of favour in the second half of the season.

But now Conca will return to Victoria and ply his trade in an off-field role, sharing 11 years worth of AFL knowledge with emerging Demons players.

“Reece is a very impressive young man who has garnered a wealth of experience across his playing career at both Fremantle and Richmond,” General Manager Football Performance Alan Richardson said.

“He is a quality character, with a passion for supporting the development of players and ensuring they have the best environment to thrive.

“We are excited to welcome Reece to our program and look forward to the impact he will have on our footy club.”
