Fremantle will have to defy history to have any chance of snatching a top-four spot in their round 23 clash against Greater Western Sydney in Canberra on Saturday.

The Dockers have never won interstate in the final game of a season.

But they’ll not only have to break that hoodoo but rely on other results to go their way to jump into the top four.

Skipper Nat Fyfe shapes as a pivotal inclusion but injured forward Rory Lobb remains in doubt with a painful shoulder injury.

Dockers coach Justin Longmuir conceded Lobb was “touch and go”.

The Game AFL 2024

“He’s obviously a bit sore but we’re treating this game as the most important game of the year so we want to put our best team out there and give it our best chance of winning,” Longmuir said.

“He was subbed out of the game and was a bit sore in a couple of areas.

“We’ll see what he does at training and decide what his plans for the weekend are after that.”

Fyfe has spent the past three weeks recovering from a hamstring injury.

If the two-time Brownlow medallist gets through unscathed, the Dockers will also consider sending Fyfe back to Peel to build his match fitness during the AFL’s pre-finals bye.

“He’s a good chance,” Longmuir told 7NEWS.

“He’s still got to tick that final box at training tomorrow but he’s progressing well, he’s in good spirits and really keen to play.

We’ll see how he gets through this game and how his confidence levels are both in form and in body.”

Longmuir expects star midfielder Andrew Brayshaw to receive additional attention for the second week in a row after contending with a tag from Eagle Jackson Nelson in the derby.

“They (opponents) have been doing a bit of tagging in the past few weeks,” he said.

“We expect they’d probably go to Andy. That’s been the common theme of opposition teams. When they do tag, they tag Andy.”
