Wil Powell’s season appears over after the Gold Coast star sustained a horrific leg injury in the third quarter of the Suns clash with Adelaide at Metricon Stadium.

Powell, who hails from WAFL side Claremont, was being tackled down by Adelaide’s Ned McHenry as he sent the ball inside 50 when his right leg bent sharply, causing a serious injury.

Play was stopped for nearly 10 minutes as a clearly distressed Powell was taken from the field on a medi-cab, when he received a standing ovation.

Commentators from the game instantly identified the injury as a dislocation of the knee, which is likely to end the 22-year-old’s season.

The defender was in his 69th game since being taken with pick 19 in the 2017 draft to the shock of many.

To make matters worse, the Suns also lost defender Connor Budarick to a hamstring injury, with vision showing him in tears on the bench.

Powell was subbed out of the game, with medi-sub Jack Bowes coming onto the field.
