Attractive mare Right To go on with the job after rocketing finish at Flemington

Striking grey-brown mare Right To Party flew home from last to land the Group 3 $200,000 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington, giving her a hat-trick of wins. Racing down the six-furlong straight, Right To Party, the $3.90 TABtouch favourite, was immediately anchored back to last of the eight by jockey Jye McNeil as Zarastro ($4.40) made the pace. Right To Party gave the speed five lengths mid-race as Zarastro fizzed up and over-raced noticeably in the lead. The favourite was still back at the tail with 300m to go yet travelling kindly, as McNeil finally brought the mare to the outside and asked her for a run. With 150m to go, Zarastro still had a length-and-a-half in hand but Right To Party hit top gear and came with a thunderous burst to conquer the long-time leader and hit the lead with 60m to go. The daughter of Zoustar monstered the line to win by a length from Zarastro, with It’sourtime ($7) a further three-quarters back. With victory, Right To Party became the first female winner of the Aurie’s Star this millennium, with Hula Wonder the previous in 1999. Anthony Freedman, who trains in partnership with his son Sam, credited his co-trainer for the recent run of form. “Sam turned her around - we do nearly nothing with her,” Freedman said. “If she got into a big sprint, she could do some damage down in the weights. “She’s matured mentally and she’s got into the habit of winning.” Right To Party had raced at Flemington for each of her three most recent wins, with all runs four weeks apart and was a recipe Freedman was keen to follow for the coming months. The stable did not have to wait long for their next winner, with Star Vega ($4.60) sprinting home from second last to win running away over 2000m. Later, ex-West Aussie Devoted ($18), who was recently purchased by local trainer Luke Fernie, ran a fast-finishing second at his first appearance for new connections in a benchmark 100 event over 1410m. It is expected the six-year-old will return home to the West having not raced here since November 2022 when trained by Michael Grantham. + Horrifying saluted over 2540m at Flemington on Saturday with connections daring to dream of a Melbourne Cup start with the gelding. Beaten $1.40 favourite Berkshire Breeze will press on to the Archer Stakes to get his Melbourne Cup campaign back on track. + Australian mare Asfoora ($3.80) was narrowly beaten in Friday’s Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood. The Royal Ascot champion was bumped multiple times over the concluding furlong but still rushed at $2.60 favourite Big Evs to be beaten a half-head.
