Federal Liberal MP Ted O'Brien has been chosen as the special envoy for Brisbane's 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The member for the Queensland seat of Fairfax was appointed after playing a key role in securing the rights to the Games in 2032.

"Hosting the Games is a remarkable opportunity for both Queensland and Australia to lock in economic and social benefits for years to come," Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in a statement on Monday.

"He will report directly to me ... to help deliver on the Commonwealth's partnership with the Queensland government and other Games partners to make Brisbane 2032 a world-class Games with a lasting legacy."
