Big Bash League: Perth Scorchers lock in English international Freya Kemp’s return

Perth Scorchers have locked in the return of English international Freya Kemp after the all-rounder impressed in her first season in orange.

Kemp brought a new dynamic to the side’s lower order last season with her power game utilised in a finishing role.

The left-hander produced 193 runs at a strike rate of 147.32 and was valuable in the field with five catches.

Kemp was also a part of England’s T20 World Cup team earlier this year and made 44 not out from 28 balls against the champion Australians.

Perth Scorchers General Manager Kade Harvey hailed the Englishwoman’s return as a major signing.

“Freya made a strong impact during her time with us last season, and we’re delighted to welcome her back to Scorchers for Weber WBBL|12,” he said.

“She’s an incredibly talented young player whose best cricket is still ahead of her, and her ability to contribute at the end of our innings adds tremendous value to our squad.

“Just as significantly, Freya embraced our team environment and culture, and we’re excited to see her continue building on those connections this summer.”

Kemp said the club’s unique environment in Perth was a major reason for her return.

I loved my time with the Scorchers last season, and I’m really excited to be coming back for another year,” she said.

“The group was incredibly welcoming from day one, and it was a fantastic environment to be part of, both on and off the field.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Perth, working hard with the team and hopefully helping contribute to a successful season.”
