East Fremantle and Northampton product Brynn Teakle closing in on contract extension at Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide could lock in WA-bred mid-season draftee Brynn Teakle for 2023 as early as this month.

The West Australian understands contract negotiations are progressing well between the club and Teakle’s management, with hopes an extension will be finalised in the coming weeks.

The 22-year-old from Northampton and East Fremantle made an instant impression at his new club, earning an AFL debut within a few weeks of arriving at Alberton Oval with pick eight in the Mid-Season Draft in early June.

After a bright start in the ruck, the athletic 203cm giant’s first appearance for the Power was cut short by a nasty collarbone injury early in the second quarter.

Teakle is expected to return from his collarbone break either next weekend or the one after, most likely for Port’s SANFL side.

If he signs on, Teakle will join fellow mid-season WAFL export, former Peel Thunder tall turned GWS Giant Wade Derksen in getting another deal.

The popular ruck-forward gave a promising update of his time at the club so far in an interview with The West Australian last week, describing his AFL debut as “the best 35 minutes of my life”.
