NRL bad boy Corey Harawira-Naera, new Canberra teammate Corey Horsburgh charged over separate drink driving
NRL bad boy Corey Harawira-Naera has been charged with high-range drink driving, less than a year after being deregistered for having sex with a teenage schoolgirl on a pre-season footy trip.
Harawira-Naera and his then-Canterbury teammate Jayden Okunbor were sacked by the Bulldogs for their antics on a pre-season NRL trip to Port Macquarie in March.
While no criminal charges were laid against the duo, NRL boss Todd Greenberg labelled the actions “inexcusable”.
The duo successfully appealed their deregistrations, with Harawira-Naera later signing with Canberra for the end of the 2020 season.
Now he and Raiders teammate Corey Horsburgh are facing possible sanction by Canberra and the NRL after being charged with drink driving in separate incidents.
Harawira-Naera was caught drink driving by ACT Police on Christmas Eve while Horsburgh was charged on January 3.
Both are awaiting their court dates.
Canberra have confirmed both incidents were immediately reported to the NRL’s integrity unit but the Raiders have been waiting for further information from police.
“The Canberra Raiders can confirm that both Corey Harawira-Naera and Corey Horsburgh were involved in separate incidents during the Christmas holiday period,” the statement read.
“Both incidents were reported directly to the NRL Integrity unit at the time and the club continues to keep them informed of any developments.
“As both issues are still pending court matters, the club will not be making further comment.”
The highly rated duo look set to face fines or even a suspension from the NRL pending the integrity unit’s findings, while the club is also likely to dish out a punishment.
