Tomljanovic beaten in Charleston WTA event

Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic has been beaten in straight sets at the WTA event in Charleston, South Carolina.

The No.6 seed suffered a 6-1 6-4 second-round loss to Clara Tauson in 97 minutes in the first ever meeting between the two.

18-year-old Dane Tauson saved nine of ten break points and will play either American Christina McHale or Colombia's Maria Osorio Serrano in the quarter-finals.

Third seed Shelby Rogers cruised through to the last eight with a 6-2 6-2 victory over fellow American Claire Liu.

The 46th-ranked Rogers set up a meeting with 65th-ranked Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, who overcame seventh-seeded Lauren Davis 6-1 1-6 6-3.

Japan's Nao Hibino beat American Francesco Di Lorenzo 6-4 6-3 and will play either top seed Ons Jabeur of Tunisia or Alycia Parks.
