In a season where they’ve surged to the top of the WAFL ladder and emerged as a premiership contender, there’s still one thing East Fremantle can’t do: Beat their arch rivals.

South Fremantle extended their remarkable winning streak over their cross-town foes, claiming a 14th-straight victory in a mud-soaked affair at the WACA Ground.

The Bulldogs held the Sharks to their lowest score and their biggest loss this season, claiming the win 9.13 (67) to 5.4 (34) to celebrate Zac Strom’s 150th game.

In-form midfielder Blaine Boekhorst (hamstring awareness) was a late out for the Sharks, with the absence of Bulldogs forward Brendon Ah Chee (illness) balancing the ledger.

The Dogs set up the 33-point victory in the first quarter, banging through three goals as the home side was held scoreless.

East finally hit the scoreboard 10 minutes into the second term, with a creative snap from goalsneak Alex Montauban going against the flow of play.

Despite a more competitive second quarter from the Sharks, South extended their lead to 29 points at the main break.

The absence of ruckman Jeremy Goddard (suspension) was felt early with South’s in-form big man Hamish Free well on top of replacement Eddie Simpson.

Free dominated in the ruck with 56 hit outs, while Simpson’s afternoon was cut short in the third quarter by an ankle injury.

South captain Dylan Main was clinically clean with four goals from four scoring shots, while Manfred Kelly piled on the pressure for his two majors.

Sandover Medallist Haiden Schloithe gave a wet weather masterclass with 28 disposals, a career-high 15 tackles and a goal in a best-on-ground performance.

On return from a bout of COVID, Kyle Baskerville (29 disposals, 13 tackles) and Milan Murdock (19 disposals, one goal) were stand-outs for the Sharks, while Montauban kicked three majors.
