Peel Thunder star Tyrone Thorne is set to return from a broken wrist as his side looks to keep their finals hopes alive with a win over Subiaco in Mandurah on Saturday.

Thorne led the Thunder to a 32-point win over East Fremantle in their opening game, finishing with 32 disposals and a goal despite sustaining the injury in the third quarter while attempting a smother.

The injury was so severe he had to have surgery to have screws inserted and removed to fix the broken scaphoid bone, which sidelined him for three months.

Thorne, 21, will likely line up against Lions should he get through training this week, but it’s yet to be determined if he will come through the reserves or push straight back into the league side.

He is a vital piece to the Thunder’s finals hopes, winning the Tuckey Medal as their fairest and best last season, having averaged 23 disposals and a goal.

Thunder vice-captain Blair Bell is also a chance to return as he recovers from a tight hamstring that had him as a late out in the loss to West Perth on Saturday.

Bell was replaced in the side by Mitch Crowden and watched from the sidelines as the Thunder lost by three points.

He’s kicked 15 goals from just nine games this season and is coming off a three-goal performance in round 10.

The Thunder will likely be without Heath Chapman, who is set to return to Fremantle’s line-up after making a successful return from a hamstring injury at the weekend.

Fellow Dockers-listed youngster Nathan O’Driscoll will play for the Thunder as he recovers from a foot injury.

Key defender Joel Hamling is also sidelined after injuring an oblique in the weekend’s loss to the Falcons.
