WA Football has moved the upcoming WAFLW and Rogers Cup grand finals to a later start time to avoid a clash with the final round AFL match featuring the West Coast Eagles and AFLW match featuring the Fremantle Dockers.

The grand finals, to be held at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday, August 23, will now kick off at 11.20am, with the Rogers Cup game and the WAFLW clash to follow at 2.05pm.

This is a change from the scheduled 9.20am start for the Rogers Cup match and 12.05pm start for the WAFLW match, with both games to be concluded by 3.50pm.

WA Football said the new times would give footy fans ample time to get to the AFL clash between West Coast and Hawthorn at Optus Stadium, which starts at 5.20pm, ensuring people can enjoy both events and celebrate women’s and men’s football across the day.

It’s also well timed for AFLW fans, with Fremantle’s away clash against Collingwood scheduled to finish at 12.35pm, 90 minutes before the start of the WAFLW grand final.

WA Football chief executive Brad Wira previously said the standalone women’s fixture would enhance the experience for players and spectators alike.

“The WAFLW grand final deserves its own stage and this scheduling approach enables clubs, supporters and the wider football community to fully embrace the occasion,” he said.

The WAFLW grand final will be streamed live on 7Plus, while the Rogers Cup will be on the WAFL Official YouTube Channel.
