AFLW 2025: West Coast Eagles secure defensive pillar Georgie Cleaver for another two seasons
West Coast have re-signed Georgie Cleaver, with the key defender believing the Eagles are on the “brink of something special” as they eye a maiden finals berth.
Cleaver joined the club in 2023, having been drafted as an athletic ruck forward, but has instead become a mainstay of the Eagles’ backline playing every game since making a round one debut.
The 20-year-old said it was an easy decision to extend her tenure with the Eagles with the club sitting inside the top eight after their win over GWS at the weekend.
“Signing a contract extension was a no-brainer. Not only are the Eagles the team I grew up following, this team is on the brink of something special,” Cleaver said.
“Being coached by Daisy (Pearce) is an amazing opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be on board.”
Cleaver had a career record 15 dispsoals in the win over the Giants and has built impressively on her debut season after a switch from netball.
“We are thrilled to extend Georgie for a further two years,” list manager Jordan Loxley said.
“A talented dual-sport athlete, this is the first season Georgie has been able to fully focus on her football, and the growth we’ve seen has been significant.
“She is a very athletic key defender whose ability to match up on a range of opponents, intercept, and create on turnover is really pleasing.
“Georgie is a versatile player, and we see her as an integral part of our squad going forward.”
