West Coast’s AFLW clash with Collingwood on Sunday will be no walk in the park, but it will be a teddy bear picnic.

The Eagles’ match at Mineral Resources Park will help raise vital funds for Telethon and support thousands of sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged young children in Western Australia.

And the club is urging families to bring their teddy bears to the game, in line with this year’s theme.

Champion Eagles coach Daisy Pearce said having her own kids — six-year-old twins Sylvie and Roy — had given her a new perspective on how important the charity’s work is.

“It’ll be good to have the kids, and the teddy bears out to raise awareness for Telethon,” she said.

“I think having had kids myself, like the most precious things and to think of people going through hardships with little ones, it’s an amazing charity that raises money for so many young West Australians and their families.

“It’ll be so awesome that we can play a small part in that.”

West Coast co-captain Charlie Thomas said she was proud to be representing such a great cause.

“I think it’s awesome that we’re raising awareness for Telethon and to have heaps of kids, young kids bring their teddies down,” she said.

The Eagles star says having the kids at the club will add to an already “really positive environment.”

“I think will be really awesome and add to the already, really positive and happy environment we’ve got down here,” Thomas said.

“To play our part in raising awareness for Telethon and all the good things they do, we’re super proud to do that.”

Prior to the game, a guard of honour will be formed by this years Telethon stars before the toss of the coin will be delivered by a Telethon star and Channel Seven’s own Fat Cat.
