Harley Reid: West Coast Eagles youngster cops solid off-ball bump from Fremantle’s Pat Voss in western derby
It was a bruising start to Western Derby 61 for Harley Reid, with West Coast’s rising star copping a heavy bump from Fremantle’s Pat Voss off the ball.
Reid was jogging toward a stoppage as a ball-up was about to take place before being felled by Voss, with the Dockers forward making his presence felt toward the blindsided Eagle.
A free kick was given and Reid was able to continue, with his former coach Adam Simpson urging Fremantle to find the balance between aggression and being reckless.
“It’s a fine line, isn’t it, between being tough and acting tough,” Simpson said in commentary for Fox Footy.
Reid was involved in an earlier scuffle with Jaeger O’Meara, who gave him plenty of tagging attention in the early stages of the match.
With Reid held to four touches in the opening term, Fremantle kicked away to a fast start to open up a 28-point lead at quarter time.
Hayden Young booted two goals to go with 10 disposals in a blistering return to full-game duties having started as last week’s sub, while Michael Frederick also had a pair of majors.
Reid tried to spark the Eagles as play resumed in the second term, producing a superb running goal from just inside 50m after taking a bounce.
