Oscar Allen posts emotional goodbye to West Coast Eagles following trade to Brisbane
Oscar Allen has penned an emotional farewell to West Coast after the co-captain was officially traded to Brisbane on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old’s tenure at the Eagles officially ended when the club chose not to match the six-year deal offered by the Lions for the free agent.
It brings a close to his chapter at the Eagles after 151 goals from 105 games, including a career-best 53 goals in 2023.
After a tough year with injury and the fallout from a disastrous meeting with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell earlier this year, Allen said he was incredibly grateful for everyone who was a part of his West Coast journey.
“I just want to take the chance to thank everyone I’ve crossed paths with at the @westcoasteagles,” he posted on Instagram.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the players, staff and fans that have had my back. I wouldn’t be where I am without your love and support. The friendships and relationships that we’ve created will last a lot longer than footy will.
“It was an absolute honour to captain the team I group up idolising alongside Duggo. It is something I will never forget.
“This year has been incredibly challenging and it’s put a lot of things into perspective for me. Through some tough times I had some special people there to support me and help me come to this incredibly hard decision to move on from the Eagles.
“I am so excited to start the new chapter at the @brisbanelions. The support I’ve already received has been overwhelming and I cannot wait to help contribute to this special group going forward.”
The Eagles showed there was no love lost, posting a heart in the comments while former Eagle Tom Barrass also showed love.
West Coast small forward Malakai Champion posted “Big O” with a heart, while Jake Waterman replied “My brodie” as ex-Eagle Josh Rotham posted “that man” with a heart.
AFLW Eagles Ella Roberts and Isabella Lewis also showed their support posting hearts.
