Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) forwards Jamie Cripps and Matt Owies are set for a month on the sidelines with the Eagles veteran to undergo surgery.

Cripps will have an operation on his knee due to an ongoing complaint he has managed for the first half of the season, contributing 14 goals across 10 games.

“With symptoms getting worse, the decision has been made to put him in for surgery, allowing him to have a good run at the back end of the season post-bye, so he will miss the next month,” Eagles high-performance manager Mat Inness said.

Owies, who joined the club in last year’s trade period from Carlton, was subbed out of Waalitj Marawar’s breakthrough win over Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) at Optus Stadium on Sunday with a calf injury.

The 28-year-old is set to miss the next four weeks.

The Eagles also provided a post-surgery update on star midfielder Elliot Yeo, who is yet to play a game this season with injury.

Yeo, 31, has been given a return-to-play timeline of six-seven weeks following an ankle operation earlier this month.

“In good news, Elliot Yeo has started to run outside, and he will continue to progress his rehab in the coming weeks,” Inness said.

It comes after the club confirmed the future of five-time All-Australian defender Jeremy McGovern was in the hands of the AFL, as he consults a concussion panel in the wake of his latest head knock.

The 33-year-old has missed the past two games and will miss the clash against Adelaide this weekend as he remains in protocols.

Meanwhile, luckless young midfielder Campbell Chesser is closing in on playing his first game for the season following ankle surgery in February, listed as one week away on the injury report.
