Western Force prop Tom Robertson has been called up to the Wallabies squad for the opening Rugby Championship Test against Argentina.

He takes over from Scott Sio - who the Force are hoping will join them next season - after he failed to overcome a shoulder injury picked up during the second Test against England.

Robertson will likely compete with Rebels loosehead Matt Gibbon for a bench spot with James Slipper set to start in the August 7 game in Mendoza.

Robertson and Gibbon were dominant for Australia A in the Pacific Nations Cup, with Robertson slotting in at tighthead in all three games.

He made his long-awaited return to the Wallabies in last year’s Rugby Championship, coming off the bench against South Africa.
