The beach at Rockingham is a natural beauty — a striking strip of golden sand set against turquoise water. But, over the last few weeks, its been wearing jewellery.
Sculptures have been on the beach from October 24 to November 1 for the 18th annual City of Rockingham Castaways sculpture exhibition.
And visitors got the chance to vote for their favourite piece of art.
Thousands had their say during the nine-day exhibition, and the winners of the Fremantle Ports people’s choice awards have been announced.
+ The $1000 Fremantle Ports people’s choice award for the main exhibition was awarded to Andrew Mullet for his sculpture Eight Arms, One Sail. The work was created from recycled metal and stained glass.
+ The $500 maquette and small sculpture exhibition was won by Safety Bay artist Carol Clitheroe for Tea-Ranquility. The mixed-media piece was crafted from a clay and copper teapot, wood, copper wire, electrical components and a sea chart.
+ In the schools exhibition, Settlers Primary School took out the $250 Fremantle Ports people’s choice award for A Delicate Future. The sculpture uses recycled materials to highlight the vulnerability of marine ecosystems.
