Safety, teamwork, communication and precision has proven a successful formula in WA College of Agriculture — Narrogin claiming a third consecutive Waratah Fencing Challenge.

Returning Narrogin champions Hayden Prosser, Kris Edwards and Tate Barrett added classmate Lincoln Patterson to the four-person team this year to compete at the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days event.

The Narrogin students proved too strong for their Cunderdin, Morawa and Harvey agriculture college rivals to notch an impressive score of 94/100 after erecting the Waratah Stocklock fence within the allocated 50 minutes.

Using Waratah’s Jio MaxY posts, Ezy-slot Strainer posts, Ezy-pipe adjusta-stays and fence post clips, the four teams had to ensure the fence had good tension, alignment and post spacing.

Safety and team effort were also major judging criteria.

Waratah Fencing WA manager Paul Jones said all four teams showed strong fencing skills, but Narrogin rose to the top with eye-catching fencing alignment and teamwork.

“Although there is a winner, it’s more of a challenge to get the students confident in using the products,” he said.

“The four teams did well, the errors were only minor, and a lot of farmers would be very happy with these fences.”

The first Waratah Fencing Challenge was held in 2008.

Since its inception, Narrogin have snared honours four times.
