Albany alpaca breeders Greg and Judy Smith, of Futura stud, were big winners at the Perth Royal Show, with one of their Huacayas taking out the best of the Show.

"This year marked a hat-trick of supreme titles at the Show with our Futura Heirloom taking the top award," Mr Smith said.

After the 17-month-old Heirloom was judged supreme Huacaya, it went on to become best alpaca of the Show when judged against the supreme Suri, Fenna Soft Taro, which was exhibited by Greg Shead, of Fennasoft Alpaca stud, Bullsbrook.

Mr Smith said the fawn-coloured Huacaya was sired by Rosedeane Sayonara, which sired the stud's previous Royal Show supreme champion, Futura Humdinger.

The Smiths run 80 breeding females at their Albany property.

"We are taking a team of alpacas to the national show at the end of the month," Mr Smith said.

In the Suri competition, Fenna Soft Taro was first judged champion senior male before taking out the supreme title.

Mr Shead said the fawn-coloured three-year-old was sired by Wesuri Lucio and out of Pitwillow Keesha.

"This was my first supreme at the Perth Royal Show," Mr Shead said.

He said he established his Suri stud in 2008 and already had been successful in selecting top stud animals from local WA breeders.
