‘Can I be really honest?’: Why former Beauty nicked $6k Chanel handbag
A former finalist on Beauty and Geek and Miss Universe model will wait to learn her fate after she was busted stealing a Chanel handbag from a popular Sydney nightclub.
Daniella Pamela Caceres, 29, pleaded guilty at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday to a single charge of larceny after the incident at Sussudio in Potts Point.
The 2022 season contestant, who describes herself as a “lioness in her will and courage”, was at the club on December 10 when her partner allegedly took the $6000 handbag, according to court documents.
Her partner is not charged with any wrongdoing.
Court documents reveal the couple temporarily “secreted the handbag” in an alleyway outside the club before returning later and ditching the iPhone 15 Max contained inside.
Realising her handbag was gone, the victim spoke to bar staff, who showed her CCTV footage, and after tracking her phone to the alley called the attention of nearby police.
Ms Caceres and her partner were leaving the Phil Collins-inspired club when they were stopped by officers, who arrested the couple and took them to Kings Cross police station.
She denied stealing the bag when speaking to officers, stating “Can I be really honest? Right now. He (her partner) saw the handbag. He was like … I grabbed it, but then I left it’”, the court documents state.
The woman’s partner also denied taking the bag before later admitting to police in an electronically recorded interview that he was “really drunk. I gave the bag to my girlfriend”.
The bag was described by police as being burgundy and lambskin with a gold chain, with $300 cash, a $200 lipstick, and a $100 hairbrush also contained inside at the time.
Appearing before the court, Ms Caceres’ lawyer said he would be applying to have the matter dealt with on mental health grounds once she returned from overseas in August.
Ms Caceres is described in promotional material for Beauty and the Geek as a former Miss Universe WA finalist who “wanted to help Geeks and Beauties” find their confidence.
“We have our down days and insecurities, so I hope we can make this a really nice, positive experience for both Beauties and Geeks,” Mr Caceres told the Channel Nine show.
Court documents reveal she has since moved to Sydney is currently employed by an Australian fashion label.
She has no criminal history and will return to court in August.
