Great Southern students from Mt Barker, Denmark, Albany rewarded for dedication with impressive ATAR scores

High-achieving students from across the Great Southern have been recognised for their years of hard work and determination with outstanding Australian Tertiary Admission Rank results. Four students from the region — Max Wright, Felix Hoadley, Luiza Brandao Fagundes, and Subira Hanggi — achieved an ATAR score of over 95. Mr Wright, who achieved an ATAR of 97.65 at Mt Barker Community College, said he was “pretty happy” with his score. “I was pretty astounded and sent it to all my mates,” he said. “I was pretty happy with it.” He will move to Perth for university in February and has received a scholarship to St Catherine’s College to help accommodate him. An undergraduate in criminology and criminal justice is on the cards, before embarking on a post-graduate Juris Doctor at UWA. Mr Wright said his year group made his ATAR experience enjoyable. “It was a really tight-knit ATAR cohort here, which is really positive,” he said. “We all got around each other and helped each other out, which was really nice.” Denmark Senior High School student Felix Hoadley earned an ATAR score of 97.60. “I was pretty happy because I only needed an 80 for my course and 90 for a scholarship,” he said. Mr Hoadley will be moving to Perth to study engineering at UWA in February. Luiza Brandao Fagundes also attended Denmark Senior High School and achieved an ATAR of 97.55. Subira Hanggi completed her ATAR via distance education in Perth through Australian Christian College Southlands, achieving a score of 98.85. To celebrate she is taking a trip to the Gold Coast and enjoying a gap year before jumping back into her studies. “I’m planning on taking a gap year so that I can study for the University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand through Curtin University to get into a medical or dental degree,” she said. Ms Hanggi said the highlight of her ATAR journey was her methods mathematics class. “It was my favourite class of my entire life,” she said. “My math teacher was amazing and he had a real passion for teaching and for maths — I found the maths I did fun.”
