Police tape and guard removed from Spencer Park death scene 12 days on, with trespass sign left on door

Tape cordoning off the Spencer Park unit where a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances earlier this month was removed, and a sign warning against trespassing installed, late last week. The Burville Street scene has been a hive of police activity since the 69-year-old woman’s death on February 8, and the transferal of her 50-year-old son — a suspect in her death — to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries. The tape cordoning off the block of units and police guard was removed on Thursday. On Monday, the only evidence of the incident was a tree adorned with flowers left by mourners, and two notices warning against trespassing in the window and door of the unit. The notices, authorised by Advance Housing, forbid unauthorised people from entering the unit. The front door of the unit is plastered with blue-and-white police tape, emblazoned with the word “evidence” with the signatures of investigating officers and dates. Forensic and homicide squad activity was scaled back significantly on February 17, with the fleet of marked and unmarked police vehicles, forensics van, gazebos, and specialist units that had been in the driveway to the block of units in question now gone. The Advertiser understands the major investigation remains ongoing. The 50-year-old man remained in a critical condition in Royal Perth Hospital’s intensive care ward on Monday. He was placed in an induced coma after being flown as a priority one patient from Albany via the Royal Flying Doctor Service on the evening of February 8.
