Gudathada Walker: Airport worker charged after driving at colleagues has attempted murder counts dropped

A 44-year-old man who drove at his colleagues in a work ute at a regional WA airport has had two attempted murder charges dropped. Gudathada Zachery Walker was alleged to have “driven at speed” into a hangar at Warburton Airport, about 280km west of the South Australian border, where two other staffers aged in their 30s were working in October. Both men avoided being directly hit by the ute, but were injured by an object struck by the vehicle. Walker had his most serious charges discontinued when he fronted Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court via videolink from Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison on Wednesday. Prosecutor Paul Usher explained that was because he had instead pleaded guilty in the District Court of WA to two counts of doing an act that likely endangered life, health or safety of a person, with intent to harm. Walker has also pleaded guilty to one count each of endangering the life, health or safety of a person and criminal damage. He is next due to face court for a sentence mention on August 1. When the charges were initially laid, police said one of the victims suffered a laceration to his forehead while the other sustained minor injuries.
