Martin Thomas Glynn: Perth man accused of anti-Semitic posts, backing Bondi shooters moved to maximum security

A man who allegedly praised the Bondi massacre online and had a weapons stockpile at his home in Perth’s south has been moved to a maximum-security prison. Martin Thomas Glynn allegedly posted his “100 per cent support” for the Sydney atrocity accused — Islamic State-supporting father-and-son duo Sajid and Naveed Akram — hours after the horror unfolded at a Hanukkah event on December 14. Police raided his Yangebup home on December 23 after a member of the public raised concerns about Instagram posts saying the shooters had a “RIGHT TO SELF DEFENCE AGAINST JEWS AND ALL FUTURE JEWS”. “What did they expect if they killed 500,000 Palestinians?” he allegedly wrote. The 39-year-old has been charged with conduct intended to racially harass, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing firearm technology while not authorised by a licence or permit and two counts failing to store a firearm in compliant storage. The former mine worker faced Fremantle Magistrates Court via videolink from Casuarina Prison on Friday, after previously appearing from Hakea Prison, and put off a flagged bail bid. He was previously represented by Legal Aid but now has private legal counsel, who said she needed to see the transcript from her client’s earlier bail refusal before making a fresh bid. Magistrate Nick Lemon adjourned the matter to April 17, saying the bail refusal could be reviewed in some circumstances and the hearing could be brought on earlier if required. Mr Glynn has not yet entered pleas. Police have previously told the court that they found three terrorist flags — including the Hezbollah and Hamas flag — six registered rifles, a flick knife and 4000 rounds of ammunition at his property. They also said they found a handwritten notebook containing vile anti-Semitic remarks and references to Hitler, a bomb manufacturing shopping list, shaved aluminium and other alarming items. But Mr Glynn claimed to be a doomsday prepper and flag collector, saying the alleged bomb-making material was for starting his fire pit and described his notebook as a place to “get ideas” off his chest including “the genocide in Palestine”. “I don’t intend to harm anyone,” he told the court.
