People travelling on Eyre Highway and in southern parts of Balladonia — north-east of Esperance — are urged to evacuate as firefighters work to douse a raging bushfire.

An emergency bushfire warning was issued just before 4pm for people in the Shire of Dundas in the Goldfields Esperance region.

The fire was upgraded to the emergency level as the fire is impacting Eyre Highway. People travelling on the route near Balladonia Roadhouse are urged to “act immediately in order to survive”.

“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place,” the emergency alert states.

If it is safe to leave, people at Balladonia Roadhouse should evacuate in a westerly direction toward Norseman.
