Shopping centre attacks: Geraldton police investigate and call for witnesses and victims to come forward

Geraldton police have issued public appeals as they investigate multiple assaults at shopping centres and supermarkets last week, including an attack on a man in his 80s. Police say on Thursday, March 26 a man aged in his 80s was physically assaulted by two unknown women outside the IGA Queens supermarket on Durlacher Street about 10.40am. The first woman is believed to be aged in her 50s and was wearing a black singlet. The second woman is believed to be aged in her 20s and was wearing a light grey jumper. They were last seen leaving the area in a pale blue Subaru Forester travelling on Sanford Street. In a separate case, police are looking to find the victim of an incident on Tuesday evening, March 24, when a group of youths were seen in Northgate Shopping Centre throwing eggs and acting in a disorderly manner. Police say a mother and her young child were struck by the eggs, however, had left the scene before police arrived. Police say one alleged offender has been charged, with some inquiries continuing. “Police are still hoping to identify the mother and child who were hit by eggs outside the supermarket and ask them to come forward and speak to police,” Geraldton police officer in charge Sen. Sgt Brendan Grogan said. “We are working with Northgate Shopping Centre and the MWCCI around safety measures for the centre and customers.” In another case about 2.55pm on Saturday, March 21, a group of youths were behaving disorderly and escorted out of Northgate Shopping Centre by security when one youth turned towards the security guard and fired a number of rocks using a ging, hitting a member of the public.
