Great Southern youngsters enjoy a memorable Stirling District Joey Camp hosted by Katanning Scout Group

The high-anticipated Stirling District Joey Camp welcomed a group of enthusiastic youngsters from across the Great Southern last month. The Katanning Scout Group hosted 11 joey scouts aged 5-8 under the playful theme of Minion Scouts on August 30 and 31 for a whirlwind of fun-filled and educational activities. Highlights included making armpit fudge, crafting ziplock bomb bags, constructing cardboard forts and engaging in nerf gun battles along with pitching tents and going on trail sign hike to Katanning’s all-ages playground. The camp marked the first use of the new outdoor kitchen at Newport Hall, which was made possible by sponsorship from Community Bank Tambellup Cranbrook of Bendigo Bank. The upgrade was well appreciated as it made post-meal clean-ups a breeze. The Katanning joey scouts thanked the five dedicated volunteer leaders, Travis “Grizzly” Cooper, Mark “Numbat” Sander, Amanda “Moose” Avery, Kate “Goanna” Jefferies, Sonya “Koolbardi” Coleman and Natalie “Quenda” White-Aylmore. Scout leader Mr Sander said the joeys had enjoyed a memorable experience and praised the volunteers and sponsors for creating a weekend filled with laughter and learning.
