Katanning Netball Association hosts long-awaited annual over-30s carnival at Katanning Leisure Centre

The Katanning Netball Association threw a final hurrah for this season’s netball on Saturday, with teams travelling in from across the region for the association’s annual over-30s carnival.
The day kicked off early with the first game on court at 8.30am at the Katanning Leisure Centre.
Teams from Katanning, Kojonup, Albany, Ravensthorpe, Ongerup, Narrogin, Tambellup and Mandurah came to play in a good-natured day of netball.

With two divisions for the day, the competition fielded a great balance of opponents in both Pool A and B.
Games were quick but full on, with everyone wanting to score high and get on the ladder to take home the gold, and both divisions got to enjoy a little competition against one another.
Teams all played a round of walking netball in costumes, with teams rewarded for the most outrageous and well-coordinated group costumes.

All teams whipped out their craziest of ideas, some almost unimaginable for a netball court.
However, teams pulled them off and completed the whole round to hysterical laughter from both the sidelines and on court.
The association’s dedicated volunteers also got the chance to get their sneakers on and take to the court, pulling together a team of volunteers on the day.
Netball WA’s Donna Herbet joined in along with Katanning Netball Association committee members, Brie Jackson from our local ambulance centre and many more amazing local netball contributors.
The association also had the honour of seeing promising young umpires Leah Edwards and Lara Rodney presented with their C-class badges for umpiring.
The grand final in Pool A came down to Narrogin and Ongerup, a great battle of court knowledge and experience between these two teams, however Narrogin managed to bag the win in the dying minutes and take home the gold.

Pool B had the day’s dominant team Kojonup up against Ravensthorpe.
However, Ravensthorpe staged an upset win and upped the score in the last 60 seconds to slip ahead and take the win.
The day’s presentations, including awards for bet dressed team in the costume round, oldest player, average oldest team and the wooden spoon were presented with a well-deserved sun-downer drink at the Sprigg Bar after the competition finished up for the day.
