Kevin Edward Isaacs: Narrogin man jailed for assaulting and threatening woman with planks of wood

A Narrogin man who punched a woman multiple times, threw a piece of wood through her car window while she was inside, and then breached bail conditions designed to protect her has been jailed for 10 months. Kevin Edward Isaacs appeared in Albany Magistrates Court via video link from Casuarina Prison on Thursday, charged with common assault, breach of protective bail conditions, threatening to unlawfully do an act, and being armed in a way that may cause fear. Police said the 47-year-old punched the victim multiple times and threatened her with metre-long planks of wood and a broken golf club outside her Narrogin home on October 27 last year. The physical altercation culminated in Isaacs throwing a piece of wood through her car window while she was inside, narrowly missing her head. On March 3, Isaacs breached protective bail conditions, showing up at the victim’s Narrogin address and demanding money before threatening her into a car with him. Narrogin officers pulled the car over and arrested Isaacs before taking him to the police station, where he was refused bail. Police prosecutor Sergeant Dylan Fisher said Isaacs’ controlling behaviour and violence was cause for concern. “This was clearly not just a once-off bad day for the accused but a continued pattern of violent and controlling behaviour,” he said. Defence lawyer Shona Paton said Isaacs had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression and did not remember much of the incident on October 27. Ms Paton said Isaacs was now receiving medication for both conditions and asked for a community-based order to give him the opportunity to get his life back on track. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell said while an affidavit from the victim stated she hoped Isaacs would be released from prison to get the help he needed, the court had to take other factors into account. Ms O’Donnell said the court took seriously its role in deterring family and domestic violence offenders.
