Lucky lottery hotspots revealed as NSW tops state list for wins
Residents in one suburb have struck gold four times as The Lott reveals the country’s luckiest hot spots of 2023.
NSW has reclaimed the title of the state with the most division one wins and biggest prize money with residents taking home 122 wins worth more than $450 million.
One NSW resident won the biggest prize of the year when he won the $100 million Powerball prize in June, becoming the second-biggest individual lottery winner in Australian history.
The suburb of Dapto (2530) south of Wollongong cashed out the most this year, with four residents taking home division one winning entries.
Victorians were also particularly lucky, with Melbourne’s CBD (3000), Doreen/Mernda (3754), and Broadmeadows/Dallas (3047) all selling three division one winning tickets.
Nerang and Pacific Pines (4211) on the northern side of the Gold Coast was Queensland’s luckiest postcode, also selling three division one winners.
Across the country, there were more than 546 winners in 2023 so far who shared more than $1.32 billion in prize money.
The prizes meant that 340 more people became millionaires, almost one per day.
The new states come as more than one in six Australian adults are expected to buy a ticket to Tuesday’s $50 million Oz Lotto draw.
“In recent months, we’ve seen a steady stream of Australians become Oz Lotto division one winners, which is why the jackpot hasn’t climbed too high, until now,” Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.
“The last time we saw a $50 million Oz Lotto prize was in October last year. In fact, we have to travel as far back as 2019 before we see Oz Lotto offer a jackpot above $50 million. That’s why we expect to see keen interest in this Tuesday’s Oz Lotto draw.
