Wickepin notched their first win of the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A-grade competition on Friday night, defeating Flames by 36 goals the Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre.
Flames came out firing in the first quarter and held a narrow one-goal lead at quarter-time over Wickepin.
However, Wickepin built momentum in the second and gradually took control of the game.
Wickepin lifted through the middle quarters with Jenna Bain and Helen Wyatt strong in defence, while sisters Tyler and Abbey Steere were accurate in the shooting circle and helped their side build the lead.
Bella Budby had a strong game at centre, playing a defensive role and picking up plenty of intercepts.
Flames had plenty of strong individual performances, with Claudia Rouke shooting well while Nikita Osgood was strong in defence.
Bella and Payton Callope both played well through the mid-court and worked hard all game to keep Flames moving, but in the end Flames were just not strong enough to match Wickepin, and Wickepin finished the night winners 62-26.
The other A-grade game was played on Saturday afternoon, with Olympics Gold facing Cuballing.
Olympics started strong, putting up a seven-goal margin by the end of the first quarter, and carried that momentum into the second, leaving Cuballing nine goals down at half time.
Cuballing managed 12 goals in the third term, outscoring Olympics’ 10, but the margin established in the opening half proved too wide for Cuballing to close despite another strong quarter in the fourth, confining Olympics to five goals while they added another eight to their haul.
Olympics held onto their early lead despite a strong finish from Cuballing, and walked off winners 45-41.
Cuballing are set to face Wickepin in round four, while Williams and Flames will clash and Olympics will have a bye.
